The sale of supplements is booming on the false notion that some is good and a lot is better. You've probably heard this before and you'll hear it again: moderation is key. Each vitamin and mineral has a certain recommendation. Supplementing an individual nutrient can at best be a waste of money (since the body excretes extra supplies it doesn't use) and at worst, get you sick. Many nutrients compete to be absorbed in the intestine. In a normal diet this is not a problem but with supplementation can lead to deficiencies. A balanced diet will include all the vitamins and minerals you need. The only supplement you should take is a daily multivitamin. Instead of relying on a multivitamin for all your needs, it should complement your diet. To understand what supplements can do for you, (both good and bad) visit the Nutrition Guide. You can also check out what supplements others are using or share you own experiences at the nutrition forums.
