How can I easily count my sodium intake?

Counting sounds like a scary word especially when dealing with diets. You think you'll have to write down everything you eat and add it up at the end of the day. If you're talking about calories, that might be the case but not with salt. Most people are on 2000-2500 calorie diet per day. The recommendation for sodium (while differing for age groups) is at most 2300 milligrams per day. That comes out to about 1 mg of sodium per calorie of food. All you have to do to make sure you don't get more than 2300mg of sodium per day is look at the nutrition label. If a food has 100 calories, make sure it doesn't have more than 100 mg of sodium. This rule shouldn't be unbreakable. If you eat a lot of low sodium foods in the morning, at night you can change the 1mg-1calorie ratio up a little bit. This should be more of a guideline.
